President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in the Spanish city of Granada for the summit of the European Political Community. There, Ukraine's representatives will primarily seek to strengthen our air defense before the winter.
The guarantor announced the important event on October 5 on his Telegram channel. He noted that the Ukrainian team would participate in both general formats and bilateral meetings.
As for air defense, Zelensky said,"there is already a basis for new agreements with partners." "We are preparing to confirm and implement them," he wrote.
The President emphasized: Ukraine "along with other nations in our common European home" is participating in the summit for the sake of security and stability on the continent.
"We are working on strengthening the existing security architecture in Europe, including the regional one. Ukraine has significant proposals. Special attention should be paid to the Black Sea region and joint work for global food security and protection of freedom of navigation. This day should be fruitful for Ukraine and the whole of Europe," the guarantor summarized.
Around 13:00, it became known that the Ukrainian leader had already arrived at the summit of the European Political Community.
According to media reports, Zelensky will first meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
At 13:12, the President wrote on Telegram that he had spoken with Sanchez. He called the talks productive.
In particular, politicians talked about a new military aid package for Ukraine. It includes additional air defense equipment, artillery, and anti-drone systems.
"We are preparing to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU under the Spanish presidency. Thank you for supporting our aspirations," Zelensky said.
He also discussed with Sanchez the provision of energy equipment to our country before the winter period, as well as the operation and protection of the grain corridor.
It should be added that this year marked the start of the third summit of the European Political Community. This format was proposed in May 2022 by French President Emmanuel Macron against the backdrop of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The first summit took place on October 6-7, 2022, in Prague (Czech Republic). The second took place on June 1, 2023, in Chisinau, Moldova.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, European Council President Charles Michel suggested that Ukraine could become a member of the European Union in 2030. This will happen if both sides fulfill the conditions set for them.
