"China, North Korea, and Iran have already united around Russia": Zaluzhnyi points out the main challenges and the key to Ukraine's victory in the war
Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that Ukraine's victory in the war depends on the cooperation of civilized countries. He noted that while democratic countries are hesitating to respond to Russia's aggression, China, North Korea, and Iran have already united around this state.
This, according to Zaluzhnyi, is a serious threat to global security, and Ukraine, along with the entire democratic world, must join forces to combat this challenge. He wrote about this in his column for the Ukrainian media.
The former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reminded that exactly 80 years ago, the prisoners of one of the largest Nazi death camps, Auschwitz-Birkenau in Auschwitz, were released. It was a camp created by the authoritarian regime of a cannibalistic dictator who wanted to rule the world but was ultimately defeated. However, history shows that dictators have a tendency to rise again, and humanity cannot afford to be complacent.
Noting the parallels between Putin and Hitler, Zaluzhnyi noted that dictators still use the images of external enemies to strengthen their own power. Just as Hitler prepared Germany for war, Putin, after the aggression in Georgia in 2008, actively built a system that allowed him to start a war with Ukraine in 2022. Emphasizing the importance of mobilizing resources for warfare, Zaluzhnyi notes that dictatorial regimes can quickly mobilize human resources, but their weakness is that due to absolute power, they cannot avoid fatal mistakes.
"After coming to power, according to Arendt, totalitarian movements face a serious dilemma of fulfilling their promises. They solve this problem by engaging in a constant struggle with external and internal enemies, real or imagined, in order to be able to say that in some sense they have not yet acquired the power necessary to fulfill their promises. That is, totalitarian governments must constantly fight their enemies in order to survive. That is, both Hitler and Putin used the creation of the image of external and internal threats for internal use and to maintain their own unlimited power," Zaluzhnyi explained.
He reminded that as of January 2025, the war in Ukraine has been going on for almost eleven years. Its full-scale aggression phase has already reached the mark of two years and eleven months. In terms of casualties, resources involved, and duration, it is, of course, still not the deadliest war known to mankind. However, it definitely ranks as the most brutal act of violence of the 21st century.
"It is obvious that the war started by a paranoid, mentally ill Fuhrer has every chance of taking its place on the pedestal of the most terrible events in human history. Whether this will be the case depends on the path that Ukraine and the entire civilized society will choose. It will be chosen right now, on the battlefields of the Russian-Ukrainian war," the military said.
He emphasized that the key to the future victory is not just endurance, but a decisive and timely response to new technological challenges that change global security. Ukrainians are fighting not only for their country, but also for peace in the world, and the further development of global relations depends on their victory.
"Because while the West continued to be afraid of Putin's 'red lines' and prayed for the need to avoid escalation, China, North Korea, and Iran have already united around Russia. The delay of democratic countries in providing Ukraine with the necessary amount of weapons has led to a change in the situation on the battlefield – we have entered a state of protracted war, the way out of which is still ahead," Zaluzhnyi said.
He also emphasizes the importance for democratic countries to continue to support Ukraine on the battlefield, as delays in providing the necessary resources only strengthen the positions of Russia and its allies.
"In the war with this dictator, we need not only to survive but also to realize a new strategy, which aims not only to control the situation on the battlefield but also to form a system of the country's resilience and transition to new technological solutions. This war is different. Therefore, not just endurance, but a decisive and timely response to new challenges will be the key to our victory. Glory to Ukraine!" summarized the former Chief of Staff.
As a reminder, on January 27, the world commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day, one of the most heinous crimes against humanity. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the Holocaust was an attempt to erase an entire nation – not only to deprive them of their lives but also to destroy the very memory of it.
