Should you charge your smartphone in the car

During a power outage, sometimes there is no alternative but to charge your smartphone in the car. However, not everyone knows that you shouldn't do this too often.

Experts say that improper charging can damage the gadget's battery. OBOZREVATEL figured out whether it is safe to charge a smartphone in a car.

Experts do not advise leaving your smartphone charging in the car for a long time when it is hot outside.

It is believed that charging in a car is harmful to the phone due to voltage drops. However, in a good car, there should be no voltage drops a priori. Another thing is a power mismatch, when car charging is either too weak or too powerful. Both are harmful to the smartphone, especially with frequent recharging cycles. Regular charging at an inappropriate power can negatively affect both the smartphone and car's battery.

For example, a smartphone will receive too much power coming from the cigarette lighter socket because the outlet has about 3 amps, and the lighter - 10 amps.

You should also pay attention to the quality of the charging cable. If it is cheap, charging will be intermittent, which will lead to battery or device damage.

In older models of cars, there is a risk that with an additional load on the battery, it will simply die and you will not be able to drive further. But this is an extreme case, as the phone drains the battery at about the level of music on when the engine is off.

And finally, the most obvious reason - it can create an emergency situation on the road, especially if you decide to put your phone on charge while driving.
