Which car will pass the intersection first? Traffic rules problem with an unobvious answer
Sometimes drivers may encounter unusual situations on the road, such as the need to make a 180-degree turn at an intersection. And you need to strictly follow the traffic rules to handle this maneuver safely.
This is the subject of the problem published by the Telegram channel "Traffic Tests 🇺🇦 (vodiy.ua)". Under the terms of the task, two cars are simultaneously approaching an intersection and one of them needs to turn around. Which of them in this situation should pass the intersection first.
So, the white car is signaling its intention to make a 180-degree turn. And the driver of the green car plans to continue in the same direction. Your task is to determine how they should move apart at an unregulated equivalent intersection. Who will pass it first? There are two possible answers to this question:
- the white car will pass first;
- the green car will be the first to pass.
Of course, at an unregulated intersection, we immediately think of the right-of-way rule. But in this situation, it works in a rather tricky way.
Initially, the white car is an obstacle to the green car on the right. That is why the driver of the green car must stop to give way to it.
But the driver of the white car is not moving straight ahead, but is turning around, which means that when he turns, the green car will be on the right side of the white car. Therefore, before completing the maneuver, the driver of the white car must allow the driver of the green car to complete the passage first. And only then complete the turn.
Thus, the correct answer here is the second one. The driver of the green car will be the first to pass the intersection.
