Veterinarians have named the "red flag" symptoms in dogs and cats: you should immediately go to the doctor

Dogs and cats can have a number of health problems. It's important for pet owners to distinguish between emergencies that require immediate attention and less urgent problems.

Nithsdale Vets shared six warning signs of problems that require immediate action. They talked about them in a humorous video on TikTok.

Urgent symptoms

The following symptoms were listed as emergencies that require attention and immediate medical attention:

• Swallowed something toxic
• Curl up and lie down
• Heat stroke
• Dog feels sick after giving birth to puppies
• The cat has difficulty breathing
• The cat cannot go to the toilet.

Non-emergency symptoms

The following symptoms have been included because many dog owners frequently visit their veterinarian, but they are not classified as emergencies and do not require urgent care:

• Skin soreness
• Anal glands need to be emptied
• Nails need to be clipped
• Lameness
• Diarrhea without other "severe" symptoms
• Vaccinations.

Before you get a dog or other pet, it is important to learn as much as you can about the breed and prepare yourself. It's also worth remembering that training is important, and not all dogs or other pets are suitable for you to get if you're new to the business.
