Top 3 common mistakes in interior design to avoid
London-based interior designer and architect Dara Huang has shared three of the most common interior design mistakes people make when decorating their homes.
She talked about possible miscalculations during the renovation in her new video on TikTok.
Using polished stone
In recent years, shiny and polished stones such as marble, granite, and limestone have become a popular material for decorating your home. However, Dara is not a fan of this.
"Instead of polished stone, why don't you try a nice honed material," she said.
Honed stone is a smooth, flat and matte surface that has been created by grinding natural stone with abrasive materials.
The use of shiny wood
Dara also explained her dislike of shiny wood, urging people to choose other materials and use only a limited amount of shiny wood in your home.
"Instead of having shiny wood everywhere, which makes it look like you live on a yacht, choose select areas for doorways or objects and it will look much more elegant," said Dara.
Curtains that are too short
While short curtains that simply cover the windows are common now, Dara says it makes homes look less elegant.
According to her, if you choose a long version of this interior item, you will automatically add elegance to your home.
