The head coach of the Russian national curling team, Vasily Gudin, admitted that the team has to be content with domestic tournaments to maintain the level of performance. To this end, Russia organized the Nornickel Curling Cup tournament in Dudinka, Krasnoyarsk Krai, in which the women's national teams of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus participate.
Gudin believes that such "international" tournaments are necessary for Russia in the current situation.
"In the regular season, we used to hold 9-10 international tournaments with the participation of world leaders who categorically do not want to play with us now. Now there are 3-4 tournaments - we are very happy to everyone, so as not to stew in our own juice. It is clear that many teams are below the level, but the practice of competing in a tournament is very important for us," TASS quoted Gudin as saying.
