On April 11, a massive Russian strike on Ukraine's energy sector destroyed the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in the Kyiv region. As a result of the strikes, a large-scale fire broke out in the turbine shop. Power engineers call the scale of the destruction "terrible".
In addition, after the destruction of the Trypillia TPP, Centrenergo lost 100% of its generation, the company said. According to the Supervisory Board of Centrenergo, the TPP is still working to localize the fire. "All employees who were on shift during the shelling are alive," Hota added.
Trypillia TPP was the largest electricity supplier in Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr regions."The scale of the destruction is terrible. It is impossible to estimate it in financial terms," Hota said.
At the same time, the mayor of Ukrainka in Kyiv region, Oleksandr Turenko, initially urged residents to close their windows tightly to prevent combustion products from entering the air. But after a while, Turenko edited the post, and the text only called for charging devices and stocking up on water.
After the massive Russian attack on the energy sector, members of the Verkhovna Rada summoned Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov and Head of the State Agency for Reconstruction Mustafa Nayem to a meeting. They want to ask them questions about the protection of critical infrastructure, according to MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak ("Holos").
