Until the late 1930s, a tram line ran along Khreshchatyk Street in Kyiv. Unfortunately, by the beginning of World War II, it was dismantled and the road was paved over.

The archival photos were published in the community "Photo Riddles of Kyiv from the Past" on Facebook. You can also see what the center of the capital looked like before the devastating explosions in the fall of 1941.

"The end of the 30s," reads the caption to the photos.

According to one of the community members, after the government moved from Kharkiv to Kyiv in 1934, Khreshchatyk was renovated from 1936 to 1941. Workers removed the tram tracks, paved the road, and planted trees.
