Potatoes are best stored in the refrigerator. This way, they can stay fresh and suitable for consumption three times longer. If you don't have enough room in your refrigerator, store them in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, such as a garage.

However, you should avoid placing potatoes next to onions, as they tend to emit high levels of ethylene gas.

Experts also advise not to store potatoes in a plastic bag, as they need air circulation. It is better to choose a wooden box or wicker basket for this purpose.

If you notice that the potatoes are shriveled, don't throw them away right away. You can take the vegetables, cut off the eyes, and place them in cold water. Most likely, your potatoes are not spoiled, but simply dehydrated.
