Not necessarily dismantled: the Institute of National Remembrance told what can be done with the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People
The Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People does not have to be dismantled if the city and the community truly redefine it. If they do, a new context and a new discussion will emerge around it.
This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory (UINM) Anton Drobovych, Interfax-Ukraine reports. Earlier, the Ministry of Culture deprived it of the status of a historical monument.
"I see three scenarios for the development of events around this object. The first scenario is complete dismantling. The second option is to leave everything as it is, and then there will be a forced dismantling because sooner or later the citizens themselves will do it, as they did with Lenin. The third option is to leave the arch and make it into a rainbow as a symbol of LGBT people or just a symbol of a rainbow over the water," Drobovych said.
According to him, the option with the rainbow is the only one that really redefines this object, and a new context and a new discussion emerges around it. In addition, he emphasized that this is not the only option, "perhaps a water slide can be made there, which will redefine functionally, perhaps something else."
When asked about the feasibility of dismantling the arch, the head of the UINP said that he did not believe that it was necessary to dismantle it if the city and the community truly redefine it.
As a reminder, on Thursday, April 30, specialists began dismantling the composition in honor of the Pereyaslav Council in Kyiv. It is located in the city center under the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian people.
