New Spider-Man movie premiere postponed: new date announced
The next Spider-Man movie from Sony and Marvel studios has changed its release date. The movie starring Tom Holland and Destin Daniel Cretton will be released a week later.
As Deadline writes, the film will be released in the world not on July 24, 2026, but on July 31, 2026. This may be due to the fact that Marvel movies released earlier on the last July weekend were very successful. For example, last year's blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine, which started at the end of the month, grossed $211.4 million in the US and $444.7 million worldwide.
However, the reason may also lie in the competition with other high-profile premieres expected on the same days. The old release date for the next Spider-Man installment was right after the release date of Christopher Nolan's new film, an adaptation of the ancient Greek epic The Odyssey starring Matt Damon. The new schedule will separate the two films by two weeks. In addition, they will not compete for screen time in IMAX theaters. And now the Marvel premiere will compete with Paw Patrol 3.
It is known that Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige returned to the position of producers in the new Spider-Man movie. Zendaya is also expected to appear, but she has not yet signed a contract for filming. It is not yet known who else from the old cast will appear in the sequel. However, viewers are unlikely to see Marisa Tomei again, as her character Aunt May died in the previous installment.
As you know, the three Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland, co-produced by Sony and Disney Marvel Studios, have grossed about $4 billion. If we consider the entire franchise, which includes ten films, as well as two Spider-Verse animated films, its total earnings amount to $9 billion.
