More than 600 thousand tons of demolition waste have already been accumulated in Ukraine: how it is planned to be used

According to official data alone, more than 600 thousand tons of demolition waste have already been accumulared in Ukraine as of March 2024. It needs to be utilized. To this end, the Ministry of Environment plans to purchase appropriate crushers.

This was announced by Deputy Minister Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi. According to him, the ministry is communicating with international partners to mobile construction waste crushers, equipment for disassembling and sorting it, as well as equipment that will ensure waste processing for reuse in construction.

"The issue of establishing 8 new plants is being considered" in the Kharkiv region, which already has about 50,000 tons of demolition waste as of early March. Two of them, the main ones, are planned to carry out the entire range of waste management, from sorting to processing and production of RDF fuel to "energy utilization" of waste with the production of electricity and heat.

Overall, the new facilities will ensure 100% recycling of household waste generated in the region, according to local authorities.

"International partners are emphasizing today that they are ready to help us move from ruins to green transformation. Green recovery is considered the main investment case of Ukraine at the highest political level at all forums and international platforms," Krasnolutskyi said.
