How to replace the battery in iPhone 16: the process has been greatly simplified

One of the key innovations that Apple introduced with the iPhone 16 line of smartphones was the simplification of repairing these gadgets. Previously, the American manufacturer did its best to ensure that users contacted only authorized services. Now those days are finally over.

In particular, users have been allowed to replace the battery in their iPhone 16 on their own relatively easily. As OBOZ.UA has learned, it is still attached to the gadget with glue, but thanks to a change in its composition, the battery can be removed quite easily and a new one can be installed just as easily. This glue is used in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models.

To weaken the structure of the substance, you need to apply an electric current to it. Then the glue loses its stickiness. Apple recommends using a standard 9V battery and two cables with crocodile clips to work with this glue. Simply connect the red clip to the battery terminal and the black clip to the ground screw holding the speaker. Then you just have to wait about 90 seconds for the current to act on the glue, and you can remove the battery without any effort. For this update, the iPhone 16th generation received a repairability score of 7 out of 10 from iFixit, which is quite a lot.

As for other parts, the post-14 iPhone series continues to be assembled in such a way that as many of its components as possible are accessible without additional disassembly. This makes it easier to replace parts like the battery or camera.

In older models, you had to disassemble the smartphone almost completely to get to these blocks. And for this, the iPhone was criticized a lot. After all, it was quite difficult to repair it without special skills.

However, even now Apple assembles its smartphones using non-standard screws. This means that special tools are needed to disassemble the iPhone. This has significantly reduced the estimate of the repairability of gadgets in 2024.
