White vinegar is a simple and versatile liquid used for centuries as a natural cleaner, from stubborn limescale to annoying mold.

There are many products on the market designed specifically for removing carpet stains, but they can be quite expensive. In addition, they often contain harsh chemicals that can ruin your carpets and harm the environment. Instead, experts say you can try vinegar as it is a very effective way.

How it works

For relatively small stains, mix one part of hot or warm water and vinegar in a spray bottle. Apply it to the stained area, then start blotting with a white cloth or paper towel from the edges to the center.

If the stain is more complex or has the additional effect of an aggressive odor, vinegar alone will not help. Coffee, tea, and various food stains are prime examples.

However, one special trick to solve these problems is to combine dishwashing detergent and vinegar. The mixture consists of three teaspoons of detergent and a quarter cup of white vinegar with four liters of warm water.

To remove the stain, use a sponge or cloth, apply the solution, and leave it on for five minutes. If the stain is fresh, remove it from the edge to the center, otherwise it may spread.

Remember not to scrub, just blot the stain until it disappears and the carpet is completely dry.
