How to care for roses in winter: one important tip
Proper winter care ensures that your roses will remain healthy and bloom beautifully in the spring. The main thing is to protect them from frost and strong winds, while allowing them to enter a natural state of rest.
Experts shared an important piece of advice for those who grow roses in their gardens. According to them, you should sprinkle slow-release fertilizer around the base of roses and other flowering shrubs, OBOZ.UA reports.
This will help ensure a constant supply of nutrients over time. Spread the granules evenly, keeping them a short distance from the stem to prevent root burns.
After application, water thoroughly to allow the nutrients to penetrate the soil. Repeat as needed, following fertilizer instructions for optimal growth and bloom.
Winter may seem like a quiet time in the garden, but January and February are ideal months for planning, care and early planting in some regions.
Experts also gave some recommendations for pruning roses. So, cut the stem to the bud that faces outward to get an open-centered shape.
For roses that tend to grow, it is recommended to cut some stems to the buds facing inward to promote more vertical growth.
