How much money does Ukraine need to resist Russia: the IMF has announced the amount
Ukraine needs at least $42 billion in international assistance for this year as the war initiated by the Russian Federation continues. These funds are needed to meet the country's budgetary needs under the changing conditions of martial law.
This assessment was made on April 18 in Washington by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Ukrinform reports. "As of now, we estimate the needs (of budget support for Ukraine – ed.) at $42 billion for this year," the head of the Fund said.
Georgieva also expressed confidence in the implementation of this assistance, as international support for Ukraine remains stable. "I was very pleased to hear yesterday's statements during the roundtable on Ukraine that support for Ukraine remains stable, it is firm," Georgieva said.
She also expressed the opinion that to solve the economic problems of Ukraine and the region, it is necessary to end the war first of all. "First of all, war is a tragedy when men, women, and children are killed and wounded every day. So we need this war to end for their sake," the IMF chief emphasized.
Emphasizing the importance of assistance to Ukraine, Georgieva also praised the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities to stabilize the economy in the war-torn country. She emphasized the need to actively support Ukraine's socioeconomic development.
