This year, abnormal heat has been observed in most of the tourist countries in Europe. The air temperature in popular travel destinations such as: France, Spain and Cyprus, has reached over 30 degrees Celsius, which has significantly increased the number of premature deaths.
According to IS Global, a Barcelona-based research institute, more than 5 million people have died this summer, Metro reports. To warn vacationers about the potential threat, a special project Forecaster.health was developed, whose participants create interactive maps showing the most life-threatening regions.

Among the popular resorts in Europe with the highest risk of heat-related deaths are the French capital of Paris, the largest city in Spain, Madrid, and the central part of Cyprus, Nicosia. Temperatures in these areas are classified as "extreme" because they reach 40°C. They are marked in dark purple or burgundy on the interactive map.

The project developers explained that too high ambient temperatures are responsible for more than 5 million premature deaths a year worldwide, more than 300,000 of them in Western Europe. This is because the human body needs to work much harder in the heat to provide the necessary thermoregulation, which increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and worsens the condition of asthma patients. Such changes begin to occur at temperatures above 26°C.
"In the context of rapid warming, when temperatures have consistently broken previous records over the past two decades, it is very important to use epidemiological models to develop new early warning systems that predict the impact of expected temperatures on health," the experts said.
