An anonymous flight attendant has revealed the real reason why crew members ask passengers to fold up tray tables during the most dangerous stages of a flight.

This was reported by the Daily Express with reference to Reddit. According to it, the flight attendant explained this requirement by air travel safety rules - travelers are obliged to perform these actions. Otherwise, they will not be able to evacuate in case of an emergency.

"It's not for you, it's for the person behind you. Because if there's an emergency, you can't evacuate," the flight attendant explained.

She also noted that most accidents on board an airplane occur due to objects interfering with the free movement of passengers. Most often, emergencies happen during takeoff and landing, which is why special measures are taken during these periods.
