Former football player of Dynamo Moscow and Zenit St. Petersburg Andrey Panyukov, who played for Atlantas Klaipeda from 2015 to 2017, complained about the negative attitude in Lithuania towards Russian citizens and the Russian language.
According to Panyukov, he had an incident in 2017 when he and his friends were not allowed into a cafe when they saw that they were from Russia.
"Or the situation. We are walking down the street, talking. A girl in her 30s walks ahead of us. She turns to us: "Why are you speaking Russian here?" – "We are Russians," she replied, "So go back to Russia!" Sport24 quoted Panyukov as saying.
Another incident happened to a Moscow football player in a restaurant when he wanted to eat Lithuanian cold borscht.
"I order it in a restaurant, and the waitress says to me: "I only understand English, I don't speak Russian." I thought: "Okay, fine!" I calmly ordered in English. Five minutes later, I see her around the corner of the cafe talking to her mother in Russian. How do I explain this? I know that they all understand Russian and listen to Russian music," Sport24 quoted Panyukov as saying.
