A mini-Dubai is being built in Europe: where the complex will be located

Construction of a large-scale project has begun on the site of the former Athens airport, which was closed in 2001. The Ellinikon complex is to become a modern center with luxury apartments, green areas, restaurants, and recreation facilities.

The project envisages the creation of an ecological space that will house Greece's first skyscraper and a huge shopping center with an area of 100,000 square meters, of which 30,000 square meters will be allocated for parks and recreational areas. The main idea is to combine shopping, work, entertainment and recreation in one place. The details were reported by Express.

According to Lamda Development, which is implementing the project, Ellinikon will attract more than 1 million tourists annually and bring €14 billion in revenue to the Greek economy. The company's CEO Odysseas Athanasiou emphasized that despite the global economic difficulties, the work is on schedule, and the first phase will be completed in 2026.

The Riviera Tower, the first and tallest residential skyscraper in Greece with 170 apartments, is already completely sold out. The exclusive Cove Villas, located on the first line, will combine urban comfort with the tranquility of the sea coast.

The project is called a "mini-Dubai", which has caused controversial reactions among local residents. Athenian Peppy Koliakakou believes that it will be a "space for the super-rich" that will be inaccessible to ordinary Greeks.

Another Athens resident, Antonis Theodoros, supports the idea and sees it as an opportunity to make the city more like Las Vegas or Miami.

By 2037, it is estimated that Ellinikon will create 80,000 new jobs, making it one of the largest urban projects in Europe.
