The skua seabird rode through Vernadsky Station on the boat of Ukrainian polar explorers. Although the bird has wings, it decided not to fly, but to comfortably ride along.
The video was posted on social media. Drivers Oleksandr Knyzhatko and Oleksandr Milashevskyi were returning from exploring the waters when a bird flew to them, landed right on the nose of their "limousine" and drove to Vernadsky station.
It turned out that this bird is already well known to our polar explorers, they call it Yukhym.
It is noteworthy that in Antarctica, people are forbidden to approach animals, but animals can approach people.
South Polar skuas are small: they are about half a metre long, weigh 1-1.5 kg, and have a wingspan of up to 140 cm. At the same time, they are quite strong and hardy. South Polar skuas are called skua.
