Russia's national team will play in an Asian tournament. Points will go into the FIFA rankings
This summer, the Russian national team will take part in the first round of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) championship. The tournament will feature eight national teams - all six CAFA representatives, representatives of the Russian Federation, and one Asian.
This was stated by the spokesman for the Tajikistan Football Federation, Faridun Saliyev, in a commentary to the propaganda TV channel Match TV. According to him, the results of the competition will be included in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings.
"The Russian national team will take part in the first CAFA Championship involving men's national teams, which will take place from 9 to 21 June this year. This tournament will take place during the FIFA June window. The points will go into the FIFA rankings. CAFA is holding the first tournament. Of course, the tournament has been agreed with the Asian Football Confederation (CAF)," Saliyev said.
The tournament will take place in Bishkek and Tashkent. According to the format, eight teams will be divided into two groups. The winners will play in the final. The second-placed teams in the groups will compete for third place in the tournament.
It should be noted that the Russian national team has been suspended from all international competitions under the auspices of FIFA and the European Football Union (UEFA).
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the head coach of Hungarian Ferencvaros Stanislav Cherchesov called the suspension of Russian teams from international competitions politicisation of sport.
