"Last regurgitations": Russian Olympic champion furious over Germany's plans to ban athletes from Russia
Three-time Olympic ice dancing champion Irina Rodnina has reacted angrily to Germany's plans not to issue visas to Russian athletes to participate in competitions in the country. The United Russia deputy repeated the traditional aggressor cliché about sports being out of politics.
Rodnina said this in a commentary to Sport-Express. The former figure skater called the German Foreign Ministry's statement about such intentions a burp, and the German politicians themselves sick people. She also complained about the infringement of the rights of Russian athletes.
"It seems to me that this is not just the development of the disease, but the last burps. The IOC is an international non-governmental organisation. Just as governments cannot dictate anything to the IOC, neither can the IOC dictate to them. The IOC works in coordination with international federations, especially the Olympic ones. I have never in my entire life seen anyone make positive decisions for Russians or, at one time, athletes from the Soviet Union. At best, they do not violate international law," Rodnina said.
Recall that the IOC recommended that international federations suspend Russian athletes involved in the Russian army and law enforcement agencies, as well as team sports. The German Foreign Ministry called this decision a slap in the face to the Ukrainian people.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) Vladislav Tretyak said that the IOC's requirements for the admission of the Russian Federation "do not fit in the mind of a normal person.
