India's Pragyan spacecraft, which was delivered to the surface of the Moon by the Chandrayaan-3 mission's landing module, has transmitted data that confirms the presence of sulfur in the Moon's soil. On August 23, India became the fourth country to successfully land the Chandrayaan-3 mission on the Moon.

This was reported by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISPRO) on X (formerly Twitter). The mission landed near the south pole of the moon.

"The Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) on board the lunar rover unequivocally confirms the presence of sulfur on the lunar surface near the south pole through the first ever in situ measurements," the statement said.

ISPRO added that as expected, aluminum, calcium, iron, chromium, titanium, manganese, silicon and oxygen were detected on the surface of the satellite.

The mission landed near the moon's south pole and will study its surroundings for about one lunar day (about 14 Earth days).
