How to protect lavender from winter frosts

Lavender is a Mediterranean plant that has taken root well in Ukraine, but the fragile flower still needs to be properly prepared for winter. The owners need to create favorable conditions so that the plant can survive the frost and bloom profusely next season.

OBOZ.UA has found effective tips that will help to cope with this. Lavender must have time to prepare for the temperature change, so you first need to cut its leaves by a third in the fall.

This method will help preserve the strength and energy of the flower, which is needed for the roots during the cold season.

Mulching will help retain heat and moisture for the plant. You can use straw, fallen leaves, or bark for this purpose. A protective layer will protect the lavender from unfavorable weather conditions.

If the weather is windy, you should also create additional protection for the flowers. Make a small fence around the plant. You can use materials at hand, as long as the lavender is in a cozy and calm place.

On very cold days, you can cover the bushes with a special plant cover to protect them from sudden temperature fluctuations. The material of the garden product will create comfortable conditions for lavender to overwinter. However, remove the cover on sunny days.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA told you how to make lavender bushes lush and grow quickly.
