Vaseline will help protect leather shoes from water and salt

In the winter season, leather shoes are subject to additional stress. In conditions of high humidity and due to the treatment of sidewalks with de-icing agents, they can get wet and quickly deteriorate. Leather does not like contact with water and salt solutions. This causes the material to lose its appearance and deform.

However, it is possible to insure shoes from failure due to moisture. OBOZ.UA tells you about a product that will help with this. And this is petroleum jelly. It works no less effectively than special creams and sprays, but it is cheaper.

To properly treat your leather pair with petroleum jelly, first clean it from dirt. Use a soft cloth or sponge to do this, and then let the leather dry completely.

Next, use a clean and dry cloth to apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the leather, spread it evenly over the entire surface, and gently rub it in. Be especially careful to treat seams and folds. Leave the steam treated in this way for several hours so that the petroleum jelly is well absorbed. Thanks to its properties, it will lubricate the leather and cover it with a thin water-repellent film.

Finally, the shoes can be polished with a cloth to make the leather shine beautifully. It is better not to finish the petroleum jelly treatment with a brush, as the bristles can scrape off the protective layer.
