How to plant strawberries correctly

As soon as the ground warms up to comfortable temperatures, gardeners begin to arrange greenhouses and beds. Early strawberry varieties will be among the first to ripen. The harvest can vary from year to year and sometimes instead of large juicy berries, you have to pick small, watery and sour-tasting ones.

In order not to be disappointed in the quantity and quality of the crop, it is recommended to pay attention to the peduncles before planting strawberries. OBOZREVATEL figured out how to plant strawberries in spring.

There are some varieties of remontant strawberries that bear fruit several times during the season. Therefore, to prevent early fruiting, gardeners recommend breaking out the first flower stalks.

Experts say that this way you can help the plant save energy and get opportunities for a more complete and healthy development.

Strawberries will begin to form more intensively, so you can expect a generous and juicy harvest of sweet berries in the second half of summer.

By the way, you should start fertilizing in late March and early April. The positive temperature should be maintained for at least a week, but the main thing is that the soil should be free of frost. After removing the mulch, runners, and dried leaves from last year, loosen the soil with a hoe. After winter, plants need nitrogen, so mineral fertilizers such as urea or ammonium nitrate are perfect.

Manure and litter are also good for fertilizing strawberries. Alternatively, you can use ash by pouring it under the bushes or mixing it with water.

Fertilizing can be done when new leaves begin to form and when flowering or ovary appears.
