How to make towels as soft as in a hotel: an easy way

Hotel towels always impress with their softness: they are pleasant and fluffy, while home textiles become stiff and unpleasant to the touch over time. Fortunately, there is a way to make towels soft at home.

Cleaning expert Agnes MacKenzie told the Daily Record about it. According to her, ordinary vinegar is a miracle cure. It works even if the towel is not new and has been through a lot of washings and seems hopeless. It's white vinegar.

According to the expert, an acid-based liquid is more effective than expensive factory-made softeners. The reason is that the acidic environment destroys grease and soap residues that can eat into terry cloth. MacKenzie said that adding fabric softener while washin is not a good idea. Even with a small excess of dosage, it does not soften the fabric but only makes it stiffer. The fabric softener molecules settle on the fibers and cause this effect.

To wash away all unnecessary substances from towels, the expert advises adding a cup of white vinegar to the washing machine during the last rinse. It will remove all unnecessary residues and make the textiles pleasant and fluffy. If the desired result was not achieved the first time, she advised repeating the procedure during the next wash.

At the same time, MacKenzie noted that there is no need to add vinegar with every wash. It works well only when it is needed and when the fabric becomes stiff. According to her, the same tool can restore the depth of color to black things that have absorbed detergent molecules, which made them grayish.

For those who don't like the smell of vinegar,  Agnes recommended adding a couple of drops of favorite essential oil. For example, lavender or tea tree. This flavoring should be mixed well. It will then neutralize the specific flavor of vinegar.
