How to remove paint stains from clothes

The quest to remove paint stains from clothes begins with caution. Some products can clean the dirt but may simultaneously compromise the integrity of the fabric fibers.

Instead of aggressive bleaches, which, by the way, are not always effective, it is worth trying safer hacks. House Digest experts shared how to get rid of paint stains on clothes and preserve the fabric.

How to remove paint stains from clothes with vinegar

  1. Take a dull knife or spoon. Carefully scrape off the excess paint and rinse the fabric with cold water.
  2. Pour a generous portion of vinegar to soften the remaining stain for easy removal.
  3. After 10 minutes of applying the vinegar, it's time for the next step. Use a toothbrush to scrub the cloth thoroughly. Excessive scrubbing can cause damage to the fibers.
  4. Then rinse the garment with cold water. If the stain is stubborn, add baking soda or laundry detergent to the hack.

Warning

Vinegar is often used as a substitute for household liquid to remove paint stains from clothes. However, this solution is not suitable for all fabrics: delicate silk fibers or spandex in sportswear, for example, can be damaged. Preliminary testing should be done on a small area of the textile.

Life hack for oil paints

Vinegar is an effective natural cleaner, but there are nuances. For example, it will not help with oil-based paints. Paint thinner or mineral spirits will come in handy. Dampen a cloth or sponge with the solvent and blot the paint stain.
