A video of the opening ceremony of the Bolivarian Alliance Games (ALBA Games), which will be held in the Venezuelan capital from 21 to 29 April, has been released. This was the first international tournament since February 24 last year to which Russia was admitted under its flag and national symbols.
The Russian athletes marched in the opening ceremony to the loud applause of the Caracas stadium with tricolours.
In addition to Russia and the host country, athletes from Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia are taking part in the competition.
48 Russian athletes will take part in competitions in table tennis, boxing, rhythmic gymnastics, trampolining, weightlifting, and beach volleyball.
Recently, the International Olympic Committee recommended that international federations be allowed to return some Russian athletes as neutrals.
