Do you see a mouse or a man? A psychologist explained the essence of the new optical illusion

In the image, you can see both a mouse and a human face

Optical illusions occur when our brains cannot provide an unambiguous, quick answer to what our eyes see. In this case, different people can perceive completely different objects in the same image.

OBOZREVATEL publishes such an image. If you want to test yourself, take a quick glance at the image and determine which silhouette you saw first. (To see the image, read the news to the end)

The swirling line on the white background is one of two images. It's either a mouse with its tail curled in a ring or the face of a man wearing glasses. But why did your brain see exactly what it saw?

The explanation was provided by British psychologist Richard Gregory. According to his hypothesis, although our eyes perceive a large number of stimuli, only a small part of them reaches the brain - most of them are lost during the passage of impulses along nerve fibers. As a result, the image formed in the brain differs from what we actually see.

This allows for less hesitation due to the need to take into account a large number of factors and helps to make decisions faster. At the same time, it sometimes causes confusion. In this case, it makes it hard to determine whether the image is a mouse or a face.

To draw a more informed conclusion about such an image, you need to pay more attention to it. However, in the case of this particular image, there is no right answer. The picture can be interpreted in both ways.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL published an optical illusion in which it is not so easy to notice a person's hidden face.
