Psychologist explains why Ukrainian children are hooked on the scandalous Russian TV series Slovo Patsana
In early November, a crime series about gang warfare in the 1990s, Slovo Patsana, appeared online. It certainly resonated with viewers in the terrorist country, but unfortunately, it also captivated Ukrainians. One of the reasons for this popularity is the protest of teenagers against society.
Yulia Sviatenko, a psychologist and candidate of psychological sciences, explained why Ukrainians are "hooked on" the series on KYIV24. She believes that it is the acute desire of teenagers to imitate a person or subculture that has made the movie popular.
"We can see that when a certain movie comes out, the same little children imitate the characters. And teenagers themselves at this age tend to show rejection of others, certain aggressive behavior, and not accept what adults tell them. They want to have a certain authority," the psychologist explains.
In particular, she explained that authority for young men is always those who can show strength, who can lead people.
"Only later, when we start growing up, we understand social norms: what is good and what is bad," Sviatenko said.
The psychologist explained that teenagers don't analyze whether a movie is good or not, they don't use critical thinking, they only see ratings and the image they want to imitate. Yulia emphasizes that such behavior can have negative consequences.
