Eggs are a very valuable and necessary product that should be in everyone's diet. They can be eaten in any form: boiled, fried, poached, and added to baked goods and salads.

It should be noted that there is an opinion that egg yolk is not healthy and can even harm the body. Family nutritionist Yevheniia Tkachuk told us whether this is true on her Facebook page.

What are the benefits of eggs?

Eggs contain a lot of nutrients. If you eat at least one egg a day, you can saturate your body with vitamins A and B, phosphorus, selenium, zinc, and calcium. Eggs are considered an ideal protein because they contain the most balanced amino acid composition among other protein products.

Is it true that the yolk is dangerous?

Indeed, there is a myth that egg yolk contains cholesterol and allegedly has a negative effect on the cardiovascular system. But first, it's worth understanding what cholesterol is and what types it is.

Cholesterol is an organic compound that is synthesized in the body on its own and ensures the stability of the cell membrane. Another important function of cholesterol is the production of steroid hormones (cortisol, aldosterone, and sex hormones) by the adrenal glands.

Cholesterol is divided into two types:

  • HDL - high-density lipoprotein
  • LDL - low-density lipoprotein

The egg yolk contains HDL, which means that cholesterol in eggs is good for health.
