How to use yesterday's mashed potatoes: a variant of a hearty dish
If mashed potatoes are not eaten immediately, they become very gray, cold, and tasteless. But this product can be a great base for other independent dishes. For example, delicious and very satisfying flatbreads.
The idea of making potato and mushroom cakes with mashed potatoes was published on the Instgaram page of food blogger Inna Levenets (inna_levenets).
Ingredients:
- 200 g mashed potatoes
- 120 g (or more) of flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 100 g of chopped fried mushrooms
- 1 tbsp of oil
- a pinch of nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp dry ground garlic
- salt and pepper to taste
Method of preparation:
1. Add mushrooms, spices, flour, baking powder, and oil to the mashed potatoes. Knead the dough. If you need more flour, add it. The dough should not be sticky.
2. Roll the dough into a ball, divide it into 6 parts, and make small balls from each part. Use your hands to form cakes. You can make them very thin, like pancakes. Or you can make them thick, like pies. The thickness of the flatbread will determine how long it takes to fry. Thin ones fry faster.
3. Heat a frying pan with a little oil. Put the patties in the pan and fry for a few minutes on each side.
