How to make chickpea and beetroot hummus: a recipe for an appetizer, spread and sauce at the same time

Hummus is a healthy cold appetizer with chickpeas as its main ingredient. You can also add beets to the recipe to make it more nutritious and tasty. Hummus is even easier to prepare than mashed potatoes, and the result is an appetizer, sandwich spread, and sauce at the same time.

The recipe for beet hummus was shared by Ukrainian chef Serhii Pokanevych on his Instagram page.

Ingredients:

  • chickpeas – 200 g
  • beets – 2 pcs (200 g)
  • onion – 1 pc
  • salt – 2 pinches
  • Tahini sesame paste – 1 tbsp
  • hot chili pepper – to taste
  • star – 1 pinch
  • vegetable oil – 70 ml

Method of preparation:

1. Soak the chickpeas in cold water for about 8 hours. Boil until soft.

2. Salt the beets, drizzle with oil, wrap in foil, and bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 1-1.2 hours. You can also boil them in salted water.

3. Chop and fry the onion until soft.

4. Peel the beetroot.

5. Salt the chickpeas, add sesame paste, chili pepper, oil, cumin, and beets. Blend with a blender.

6. Add the onion and mix.
