"Miss Japan 2024" Karolina Shiino, who is from Ukraine, has renounced her title. What happened
Karolina Shiino, a 26-year-old native of Ternopil, who recently won the title of Miss Japan 2024, has given up her crown. The Ukrainian has Japanese citizenship and has been living in the country for over 20 years, but many netizens disagreed with the jury's choice, saying that she "does not reflect true Japanese beauty."
However, as it turned out, Shiino refused the coveted title because of a new scandal, Kyodo News reports. Japanese tabloids published information stating that Carolina is having a relationship with a married man.
A statement on the Miss Japan Association's website said Shiino's request to relinquish the crown had been accepted. The organization also offered its "deepest apologies" to stakeholders, meaning sponsors and judges, saying the pageant award will remain vacant for the rest of the year.
The organizers of Miss Japan initially supported Shiino after she told her modeling agency, Free Wave Co. that she had ended the relationship after learning that the man was married. But a new statement from the agency says she continued to date the Japanese man after learning of his marital status.
In an apology posted on her Instagram page, Karolina said she was unable to tell the truth due to confusion and fear after the article was published. "I am sincerely sorry for the huge trouble I caused and for betraying those who supported me," she wrote.
