Monastyrska and Netrebko

At the beginning of the Kremlin's aggression, Ukrainian opera star Lyudmyla Monastyrska replaced Russian Anna Netrebko in a Metropolitan Opera production, whose contract was terminated for supporting the Putin regime. After the incident, Monastyrska met with Netrebko, who came to her dressing room.

The Ukrainian singer talked about this in an interview with OBOZ.UA. Monastyrska mentioned that Anna Netrebko, despite the toxicity of Russian performers worldwide, continues to tour abroad.

"We have seen each other only once since the incident," says the Ukrainian singer. "Last summer, I was singing Aida, and a tenor from Turkey was supposed to work with me. We worked through one performance, and he suddenly fell ill, so we had to find a replacement immediately. We called Anna Netrebko's husband, the Azerbaijani tenor Yusif Eyvazov. She came to listen to him and came to my dressing room to say hello. That's how we met. There are no resentments between us - this is the decision of the theater."

Lyudmyla Monastyrska claims that she does not keep track of what contracts the Russian Netrebko has now but assures that "she is not deprived of work now."

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Anna Netrebko, the favorite singer of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, returned to the stage of the main German theater. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine drew the world's attention to this in September. On its Facebook page, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that "this is the 'normalization' and tolerance of Russian war crimes, for which Netrebko is jointly responsible." The Foreign Ministry reminded that "the voice of Ukraine in Germany should be heard more than the soprano Anna Netrebko." Meanwhile, Netrebko's performance was canceled in Estonia and the Czech Republic.
