"It's scary to remember". TV presenter Valentyna Khamaiko tells how her military husband has changed since returning from the front

Valentyna Khamaiko and Andrii Onistrat have four children.

Valentyna Khamaiko, a presenter of the 1+1 TV channel, admitted that the war had a great impact on her family's relationships. The TV journalist's husband stood up to defend the country when the Russian invasion began.

According to Valentyna Khamaiko, over time, she began to feel that she and Andrii Onistrat were growing apart. And when he lost his eldest son at the front and was transferred closer to them at the request of his family, "I realized the depth of all the changes that have taken place in our country during the war," the OBOZ.UA host said.

"My husband thinks that he has not changed during the war. But in fact, he has changed a lot," says Valentyna Khamaiko. "When he came back from the front, I realized that he was not the same as before. Andrii underwent very difficult changes after losing his son Ostap at the front. The pain we are experiencing is unbearable... When my husband returned to the front after the funeral, I realized that we were growing apart. I caught myself thinking that when we talked on the phone, he was mostly silent. And then he hangs up – and that's it. The man continues to live in total pain. I was very afraid of his condition."

"It was such an emotional swing – it's scary to remember," the TV presenter continues, "So I started asking my husband to transfer closer to us. Because we were falling apart as a family. He transferred. And then I realized the depth of all the changes that had happened to us during the war. I started looking for military psychologists, convincing Andriy that it was necessary. And not on the first attempt I managed to find a specialist whom he could trust. Two months have passed. And I can finally say that I see a completely different person now. Increased aggression, withdrawal – it's gone."
