A few days before the New Year, a baby elephant got lost in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve in India. It got separated from the herd and walked about 4 kilometers on its own. The story ended happily: zookeepers found its mother, and the elephant's love touched the web.

Four days after the elephant was reunited with its herd in the reserve, the staff tasked with keeping an eye on it found the baby sleeping with its mother in the middle of a tea plantation, The Hindu reports. The photo of this moment captured the Internet.

"When a picture is worth a million words. A rescued elephant calf, after being reunited with its mother, takes an afternoon nap in her soothing arms before moving out again with the larger herd. The picture was taken by forest officials somewhere in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, keeping them safe," Supriya Sahuias, Principal Secretary for Climate Change and Forests, Tamil Nadu government, wrote on X. The official's followers expressed their joy with the photo, and some even compared the elephant's nap to their children's sleep.

Usually, elephant herds rarely move on if a calf goes missing, they can only rush to meet it if they feel imminent danger. This calf was lucky that the workers were able to find his family, Daily Mail writes.

Animal rights activists washed him to remove any human odors and returned him back to his herd and mother after three days of separation. The story ended with a happy ending and a cute photo.
