On Wednesday, November 22, members of the Parliament supported draft law No. 9432 on the use of English in Ukraine. "278 MPs voted in favor of the bill, and no one spoke against it.

This was reported on Telegram by an MP from the Voice party Yaroslav Zhelezniak. The draft law provides for the official recognition of the status of English as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine.

In addition, this document:

- defines certain categories of positions for which candidates are required to speak English;

- regulates the specifics of using English in the work of public authorities, local governments, and emergency assistance units, when crossing the state border, in the fields of education, transportation, and healthcare.

The provision for screening English-language films in cinemas in the original language with Ukrainian subtitles was excluded by the Committee's decision.

Oleksii Honcharenko, an MP from the European Union, clarified on Telegram that this was only the first reading. The draft law will be considered in the second reading, and then it will be submitted to the president for signature.
