Stefanishyna: US cannot give Ukraine any "Plan B", only funding

Stefanishyna said that Ukraine needs funding for military assistance from the US

The United States cannot offer Ukraine any Plan B, except for financing a package of additional military assistance. The scale of the assistance needed is very significant.

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Ukrinform reports. She noted that due to the rapid developments in the US Congress, Ukraine and European partners did not have the opportunity to regroup.

"And the agreements on the distribution of aid were formed in Ramstein for months," the Vice Prime Minister said.

"Those allies who have other obligations cannot quickly regroup and provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons that were planned as support for the United States," Stefanishyna explained.

She noted that Ukraine also has only a plan "A" - to survive and withstand "in impossible conditions." The official expressed her belief that this will certainly happen. At the same time, she noted that Ukraine is drawing conclusions about its reliability and has several parallel processes, even while realizing that it has firm guarantees from its allies.

Stefanishyna also noted that Ukraine and the United States may sign a security agreement before the NATO anniversary summit in Washington in July, but our country is currently focused on the Congressional vote on the aid package, as it is a matter of survival.

"The relevant negotiations were held at the level of the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva. As you know, Andriy Yermak is in constant contact with Jake Sullivan (US National Security Advisor - ed.). That is, from a tactical point of view, the negotiations have been held, and a declaration has been strategically adopted. This decision can be made earlier," Stefanishyna said.

However, she noted that first we need to survive. Issue No. 1 is the protection of Ukrainian cities with air defense systems. First of all, we need shells for Patriot systems.

The day before, at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US Vice President Kamala Harris said that Washington had no plan in case Congress blocked aid to Kyiv. The White House has only one plan A - to support Ukraine and provide it with everything it needs.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- At the Munich Security Conference, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held telephone talks with US leader Joe Biden. The interlocutors also emphasized the importance of the US Congress's prompt adoption of a bill on additional funding for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

- The US President disclosed the details of the conversation to journalists. He assured his interlocutor that he would make every effort to ensure that Congress approves aid for Ukraine. Biden also noted that it was no secret to him that the Defense Forces had withdrawn from Avdiivka, in part because of the lack of ammunition.
