Scholz says he will not allow demilitarization of Ukraine and speaks about peace talks
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has assured that Europe will not allow the demilitarization of Ukraine. He also rejected the possibility of concluding agreements on Ukraine only between the United States and Russia.
According to the Chancellor, issues regarding Ukraine should not be resolved without its participation and without taking into account the position of European countries. Scholz said this in the RTL/ntv Quadrell program, NTV reports.
Scholz stressed that no party has the right to impose demilitarization on Kyiv.
"We, the Europeans, will not allow this. We will also not allow anyone to agree that Ukraine will be demilitarized," the chancellor said.
The German politician also responded to the US statements that European countries are not involved in the negotiations on the war.
"Nothing will work without us. Of course, we have something to say," he emphasized.
According to him, security guarantees for Ukraine cannot be adopted without its participation and the participation of Europe, and the United States, in his opinion, does not refuse to support Kyiv.
As a reminder, Scholz believes that peace will not come if Russia wins the war with Ukraine. On the contrary, it will put peace and stability in Europe under even greater threat. He is convinced that any agreement on ending the war should stipulate that Ukraine will have a strong army so that in case of a second attack, the country can defend itself.
The German Chancellor also emphasized that even after the war is over, Ukraine will need the help of its Western partners.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Finnish President Alexander Stubb proposed an idea of how the European Union could play a significant role in the peace process regarding Ukraine. He mentioned the diplomatic approach that helped Serbia stop repressions against Kosovo in 1998-1999 and contributed to its emergence as a separate state.
