Scholz at the Munich Conference: Europe wants a just peace for Ukraine, there will be no negotiations without Kyiv
Europe wants a just peace for Ukraine and stands firmly by its side. In particular, a dialogue on the future of the Ukrainian state should take place exclusively with the participation of Kyiv.
These statements were made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his speech on the second day of the Munich Conference. According to him, the breakup of Ukraine will not bring peace and order to Europe.
"As supporters of democracy, we stand by Ukraine. That is why I am glad that the United States has reaffirmed our common goal of preserving Ukraine's independence and sovereignty," Scholz said.
Commenting on the negotiations to end the war, he emphasized that "there should be nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. He also emphasized that "borders should not be changed by force."
"Russia's victory and Ukraine's disintegration will not lead to peace and order in Europe. We will never support a peace imposed on Ukraine. Nor will we accept any solution that divides European and American security. Only Putin will benefit from this," the Chancellor emphasized.
He added that it is the European side that plays a key role in supporting Ukraine. Therefore, even after the end of hostilities, it is necessary to continue to help Kyiv with military assistance, and a strong army is a guarantee that the aggressor country's attack will not happen again in the future.
"Now Ukraine has about 1 million people in the army, and they are quite well equipped. This means that after the war, Ukraine will have a fairly good Armed Forces. But what guarantees can we get from Russia that the attack will not happen again? This guarantee is a strong Ukrainian army that would exceed their economic power and would be able to survive in the postwar period," Scholz emphasized.
The chancellor emphasized that dictator Putin planned to "establish a puppet regime in Ukraine, but instead, Ukraine is a strong democratic country that is confidently moving towards EU membership."
As OBOZ.UA reported, Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said in an interview that Ukraine needs military assistance from the United States even after the war is over. According to him, America's support plays an important role in Ukraine's defense and future.
