Poland says Trump stopped military aid to Ukraine without consulting allies
The White House's decision to suspend all U.S. aid to Ukraine was made without consulting its allies. Neither NATO members nor the countries that were part of the US-led Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format were informed of their intentions by the US government.
This was stated by Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Pawel Wronski. He called the situation "very serious." The diplomat's statement was quoted by TVN 24.
The White House said that Trump had suspended all military aid to Ukraine to "ensure its contribution to the resolution of the conflict." A few hours earlier, in response to a direct question from journalists, Trump himself said that "he hasn't even talked about it yet" and suggested that "we'll see what happens" because, as he said, "a lot is happening."
A representative of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pawel Wronski, called the Trump administration's decision "very significant" and the situation that followed it "very serious." He emphasized that Washington not only did not consult with its NATO and Ramstein allies on this decision, but also did not inform them of its intentions.
"This was done without any information or consultations – neither with NATO allies nor with the Ramstein group, which supports the warring Ukraine. The Council of Ministers (of Poland – Ed.), which is currently meeting, will comment on this decision. The statement of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen indicates that this will also be a topic of discussion at the upcoming European Council," the representative of the Polish Foreign Ministry emphasized.
Wronski added that the country's Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski "is in constant consultations with our allies, not only European ones," citing the recent visit of the head of Polish diplomacy to Japan as an example.
Earlier, the Trump administration's suspension of military aid to Ukraine was confirmed by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Opening a meeting of the Polish government, he said that the suspension was confirmed by Polish border guards and employees of the country's logistics hub. Tusk also emphasized that there is no reason to doubt that Washington is working to lift sanctions against Russia. According to him, the Polish government should unite to quickly make "extraordinary decisions" required by the current situation.
