"Our stance remains unchanged": Ukraine's Communications Advisor reacts to Trump's announcement of a meeting between high-ranking officials at Munich Conference
There will be no negotiations between Ukraine and Russia at the Munich Security Conference in Germany. For this to happen, Ukraine and the West must first document a shared worldview.
Dmytro Lytvyn, Communications Advisor to the President of Ukraine, shared his thoughts with OBOZ.UA. He denied the words of American leader Donald Trump, who on February 13 announced a future meeting between representatives of Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow in Munich.
"Our stance remains unchanged. Ukraine must first talk to America. Europe must be a part of any substantial conversation for the sake of real and lasting peace. And only a shared documented worldview can bring us to the table with the Russians," Lytvyn said.
He emphasized that "one does not meet with the Russians when there is nothing on the table."
"Currently, there is nothing on the table. So there will be no talks with the Russians in Munich," the advisor explained.
As a reminder, the Munich Security Conference will kick off in Germany on February 14 and last until 16.
On February 13, journalists asked Trump about his desire to meet personally with Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin (the US president had previously said that such talks would likely take place in Saudi Arabia).
Trump replied that Putin and other Russian officials would visit Saudi Arabia in "not too distant future."
"They are having a meeting in Munich tomorrow (14 February). Russia is going to be there with our people. Ukraine is also invited, by the way. I'm not sure exactly who’s going to be there from any country. But high-level people from Russia, Ukraine and the United States," he added.
As reported, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President J.D. Vance, the US President's Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg and other officials will come to Munich for the Security Conference.
The White House announced that US representatives will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Germany.
