Head of Munich Conference burst into tears at its closing and called the event a "European nightmare". Video
The head of the Munich Security Conference (MSC), Christoph Heusgen, called the 2025 forum a "European nightmare." At the same time, he considers it one of the most significant of all the past ones.
During his closing speech, the diplomat, for whom this event was his last in office, could not contain his emotions and cried. The moment was broadcast by the German TV channel ZDF, and later a fragment of the video was distributed in other media.
"The MSC-2025 was in a sense a nightmare for Europeans," Heusgen said, referring, among other things, to the speeches of representatives of the administration of the new US President Donald Trump.
The head of the Munich Conference noted that this year's forum clarified a lot of things and showed that "America under Trump lives on another planet."
According to him, after US Vice President J.D. Vance's speech at the forum, fears arose "that our common values are no longer common."
"We also noticed that even Republican senators are very careful in their public statements because they are afraid of their president," Heusgen added.
Finally, he rubbed his eyes, bursting into tears, and left the podium to loud applause from the audience. Thus, an emotional Christoph Heusgen closed the 61st MSC, marking the end of his term as head of the Munich Conference, which began in 2022.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, EU foreign ministers held an emergency meeting on the morning of February 16 before the end of the Munich Security Conference. The reason could be a resonant speech by US Vice President J.D. Vance, who outlined a change in Washington's approach to relations with Europe.
