Budanov named country that could become Russia's next target

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, has said that the Kremlin is seeking to restore an imperial model of the state similar to the USSR, with control over the countries of the former Warsaw Pact. According to him, if Ukraine loses the war, Russia's aggression will not stop there.

Budanov emphasized that Poland would be its next target. He said this during a special YES meeting in Kyiv called "Three Years – Time to Win," which took place on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The DIU chief explicitly stated that in the worst-case scenario, if Russia unites with Belarus and Ukraine, Poland will be the next target. After it, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, and other states that were once part of the Soviet sphere of influence. This, he said, is the "minimum task" for building a new empire.

"If we go for the worst, as they say, this is not a scenario, just a worst-case scenario, and it happened that three countries (Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine – Ed.) united into one. And it is almost impossible. Poland will be the next to go. I am telling you this directly. And you should not be afraid of this, you should realize it. Then there will be: Czech Republic, Hungary, and Bulgaria. Everyone will go back. The Warsaw Pact countries are, as they say, a "minimum task" – if an empire is formed. And then it will happen," Budanov said.

The Warsaw Pact, which the Ukrainian military leader is referring to, was a military and political alliance of socialist countries concluded in 1955. It included the USSR, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the German Democratic Republic, and Albania.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia could use the territory of Belarus to invade Poland and Lithuania. The situation resembles preparations for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has been issuing ultimatums. Moreover, the Kremlin used some politicians in Ukraine to convey Russian demands to the country's leadership through them.
