Britain to announce new package of support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia on February 24 – The Telegraph

On the third anniversary of the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, the British government intends to announce a new package of military assistance to the Ukrainian army. In addition, Prime Minister Keir Starmer may announce additional sanctions against Russia.

The British government emphasized that they want to put Ukraine in a strong position, whether for negotiations or for continuing hostilities. This was reported by The Telegraph.

According to a senior British government source, the new military aid package for Ukraine risks disappointing the White House. However, London intends to seek to support Kyiv's military efforts in the fight against Russia.

"We still don't know which position we will be in. It's right that we continue to support Ukraine in all the ways we've been talking about for a long time," sources in the British government said.

Analysts note that Britain's decision to announce a new package of support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia is in stark contrast to the approach of US President Donald Trump, who has recently called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a "dictator" and insisted on ending the war as soon as possible.

However, during his planned visit to the United States, Starmer will try to reduce tensions. It is expected that he will finally announce the date by which 2.5% of UK GDP will be spent on defense.

As a reminder, the European Union countries are working on a large military aid package for Ukraine. It is about additional military support worth about 20 billion euros.

Earlier it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will travel to the United States next week to meet with President Donald Trump.
