There is no need to give up bread, pasta and cereals: the doctor dispelled the myth about the harm of gluten
Gluten is safe to consume for people who do not have a number of health conditions

There are many myths surrounding gluten, even though this protein is found in many foods that people eat every day, even dietary ones. It can only be dangerous for those who live with gluten intolerance and celiac disease or who abuse gluten.

Doctor and health expert Uliana Werner told OBOZREVATEL whether it is necessary to give up bread, cereals and pasta. As you know, gluten is a mixture of proteins found in cereal crops. The main components of gluten are two proteins: gliadin and glutenin. They are responsible for the elasticity and malleability of dough.

"Besides wheat, gluten also comes from rye, barley and triticale (winter). Sometimes it is found in oats, but only if the oats were processed with other foods containing gluten. Oats themselves do not contain gluten. For most people, gluten does not cause any problems and is quite safe for them. However, gluten consumption can significantly impair the quality of life for people with certain chronic diseases, such as celiac disease or gluten intolerance," says Uliana Werner says.

According to an expert, gluten contains many beneficial nutrients, including carbohydrates and proteins. It has no negative impact on health or physical well-being of people without chronic health conditions.

"If you are not diagnosed with celiac disease or gluten intolerance and do not feel a negative reaction to gluten, you can safely consume foods containing it as part of a balanced diet. It is always advisable to consult your doctor or dietitian if you have specific questions or concerns," the doctor advised.

It's not gluten that causes health problems and overweight, but rather sodium, sugar and other additives in processed foods, Uliana Werner emphasized.

Gluten can be harmful to people with celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, wheat allergy and gluten ataxia.

Earlier OBOZREVATEL reported that zinc deficiency can be dangerous for both women and men. People often forget about this important component and do not get enough zinc from food.
